I Vow to Distract Forever (2023 - 2025)

In I Vow To Distract Forever, Djuwa promises that as a performer she will always be her most authentic self, even if she is considered 'distracting' from a classical perspective.

Djuwa Mroivili, is a beacon of authenticity in the world of classical music. Djuwa explores how to challenge traditional (cis, hetero, eurocentric) norms and dominant hierarchies in the classical music tradition, while embracing an authentic narrative.

In I Vow To Distract Forever Djuwa vows to always be her most authentic self as a performer, even if she is considered ‘distracting’ from a classical perspective. She aims to break down the classical hierarchies between composer, musician and instrument and strives for equally enjoyable experiences for all parties involved, where there is room for experimentation, strength and softness.

Djuwa's own work is characterized by a mix of classical music, theater and beauty. Creating experiences that resonate with a sense of connection and recognition. Through her art she offers healing experiences by presenting new perspectives on social issues, using vulnerability as her superpower.

I Vow To Distract Forever was first created and produced at Productiehuis Theater Rotterdam in 2023, and featured at MOMO Festival in Spring 2024. In February and March 2025, Djuwa developed the performance I Vow To Distract Forever into a full-length performance, which she then performed in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht.

The performance was produced by Productiehuis Theater Rotterdam, and directed by Cherish Menzo. Costume and scenography by Berend Brus, braiding by Shainomy Hansen, nail art by Manon van Eldik, make-up by Shirodj Bholasingh, sound production by Sonya Vos, Eva van Manen en Ishtar Bakhtali.
